June is still a pretty snowy time in the Tetons, depending on the route
you will be doing. The best time (so I've been told) in the Tetons is late
July through early September. However, I was there last year over Labor day
and got caught in a snowstorm up by the lower saddle on the Grand. (60 mph
winds, etc.). The Owen Spalding route was iced up above the upper saddle,
making it a rather difficult proposition. People were summiting via the
EXXUM route, but having difficulty in the descent to the upper saddle.
My brother was there in late June of this year and few were climbing due
to snowpack. I guess my point is go in mid-July or August. I don't know
anything about the Sawtooths, but you might consider the Wind Rivers
southeast of the Tetons in Wyoming. I think they have a longer climbing
season, although they require a rather lengthy backpack in. If you need any
more information, I'd call the Jenny Lake Ranger Station in Jackson Hole.
They can give you a good idea of yearly conditions, crowds, etc.
