Definitely a good idea and something I try do everytime, but I also
don't want to have to count on it. For caving it's standard procedure
to set a overdue time. I just got back (less than 1 hour ago) from a
cave rescue where 2 improperly equipped and trained cavers when into a
cave and their 2 flashlights died. They were in 48 hours, before the
1st of the rescue callout cavers found them. If they had been smart
about telling someone, that could have been 24 hours, or less.
