Denise: I really enjoyed your account of the climb. Sounds to me like you
were sorta lucky, huh?
Have you read "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains" by Isabella L. Bird,
published by Univ. of Oklahoma Press. It is something of a classic.
Apparently Isabella was from a "good" family in England when the caste system
was really working. About all a woman could do, other than get married & bear
children, was become a missionary. But, that wasn't for Isabella. He had "ill
health" and travelled...you know, India, all over Europe, etc. Then she discov
ered the Rockies and even spent a winter there in 1873. She climbed Long's
Peak and many others...but, hell, I don't want to ruin her account for you.
Get the book. Maybe a library has it but if not, it is only a small thing and
not costly. And, I'd be interested in what you think of it.
