I'm familiar with AAI and also have heard very good things about
their instruction. In fact, I wanted to try one of their courses.
However, they don't have the concession on Rainier and my partner
believes Rainier is the only mountain where we can get the
appropriate training in the summer in the continental U.S.
I'd be willing to try and talk her out of Rainier--and push the
course to a different season (spring/fall)--if their was a better
training ground where we can obtain the schooling...any ideas.

I haven't taken a course from RMI, but would suggest you get a
fairly detailed description of what they do before signing on.
Their standard course is geared largely to getting non-serious
mountaineering folks up Mt. Rainier. You might also investigate
the American Alpine Institute in Bellingham, Washington. Their
