Another view on RMI. I think their primary function is to teach their clients
enough that they can climb Rainier safely- definitely a worthy goal. But
if your interest is to become a competent mountaineer, enough to go on
unguided trips, I don't think their standard package would be adequate.
I don't know if they have other trips. Another outfit, that in my opinion
has some of the best mountaineers in the US as guides, and has an
excellent reputation for teaching, is the American Alpine Institute in
Bellingham. It would definitely be worth checking them out.
