A general guideline to use for pack weight is 1/3 body weight. I am 12
stone so the maximum I would consider carrying is 56 lbs. I was recently
on a 3 day camping trip in Scotland and my full pack including ALL winter
clothing, gear, tent and food was 50lb.

Parties must make sure that they apply the same rule to each other and
make sure that no one is carrying too much. Communal and personal gear
must be spread equally. Too much weight can lead to problems in the back
and on the knees.
