Subject: winter-camping update

Wow, thanks to everybody for the responses! I think I realize just how insa
ne this will be. But hey! that's OK. I'm still psyched! The story here is
that I'm going with my school's backpacking club over President's weekend up to
Tuckerman's Ravine. (didn't I read in one of the messages about an avalanche
there? heh-heh) I think that's up in the Whites, but I can't remember right
now. We're going to work on a lot of technical things: ropes, staying warm,
maybe snow-shelters, and how to sit around in the sleeping bags and eat lots of
food for calories! Anyone ever been on NOLS? remember the first line of the
saying: "FOOD IS FUEL, weight is pain, speed is safety, dead is...forever" Good
thoughts to keep in mind... Hey, if anyone has been on NOLS, where did you go
on your trips? Especially the Denali expedition-I'd love to hear about that.
I went last summer on the North Cascades mountaineering in Washington state and
really got hooked by the "mountain-bug." Anyway, thanks again for the
advice and I'll write again about how it went...
